Supervisors to organize Wednesday

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will hold its annual organizational meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, in the newly-renovated historic courthouse on Court Street.

The board’s chair and vice chair will be elected, its clerk and deputy clerk will be appointed, and the meeting schedule for 2014 will be determined.

In addition, the format of the agenda will be reviewed, the supervisors will set a date for their annual retreat, supervisor liaisons will be appointed to various boards and commissions, and a reimbursement rate will be determined for mileage.

Finally, supervisors will discuss attendance at a chairperson’s institute and supervisor certification classes sponsored by the Virginia Association of Counties.

This will be the first meeting for newly elected supervisor Jack White, who will join O.J. Cole, who was elected to a third term in November. Other members are Janine Burns, Edwina Casey and Charles Ingram.
