Supervisors seek to make county roadways safer

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors is going to try to make it a priority to work with state legislators and the Virginia Department of Transportation in the coming months to help make county roadways safer. 

The issue came up during Tuesday night’s board of supervisors meeting in the colonial courthouse after a resident complained to and met with supervisors Monday about the settling of Chestnut Fork Road in Bellamy. The area of concern is where culverts running underneath the roadway had been replaced several decades ago and are no longer handling the water appropriately.

Theresa Denby, who lives off of Chestnut Fork, said she met with at-large supervisor Kevin Smith and Abingdon district supervisor J.J. Orth on Monday at the site where the roadway crosses Fox Mill Run. She said she first contacted VDOT about the issue before Christmas, and nothing has been done to address it.
