Supervisors, planners to meet Tuesday

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors and the Mathews County Planning Commission are scheduled to hold a joint public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday on a possible request for a conditional use permit.

Marianne and Scott Gibbs of Edmond, Okla., have requested the hearing in order to obtain a permit to operate a tourist home at 324 Belmont Lane in North.

The hearing will be held in the event that the Mathews Board of Zoning Appeals, when it meets on Wednesday, denies an appeal the Gibbses have made of a decision by Mathews County Planning and Zoning Director John Shaw that the property they own is being used as a tourist home. The Gibbses deny their property is being used as a tourist home and assert it is being used as a vacation cabin, which is a by-right use.
