Supervisors, planners to hold two joint hearings Tuesday

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission will hold joint public hearings on two issues at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse.

Under consideration will be a proposal to add driveway and private road standard requirements to the subdivision ordinance and a proposal to require that plats contain language to indicate the presence of wetlands on property.

The driveway and private road standards provision would set the minimum width for a private driveway at 12 feet within a 25-foot right-of-way, require 20-foot-wide turnouts at 400-foot intervals or less on driveways more than 400 feet long, require enough space on driveways longer than 150 feet for an emergency vehicle to turn around at the end, and require a minimum horizontal clearance of five feet and a vertical clearance of 14 feet for vegetation.
