The Mathews County Board of Supervisors held a workshop on the FY2027 budget last Thursday to hear budget presentations and requests from county departments and constitutional offices. County Administrator Ramona Wilson provided the board an overview of the budget, including a 2 percent raise for county employees that would cost an additional $108,949. She said the raise would be in alignment with what the state is proposing for employees. While the state pays for the cost of salaries of employees of the constitutional offices, she said, the county provides a supplement for some of those positions, and “it’s not fair if some get a raise and others don’t.” Wilson also suggested implementing a classification and compensation plan that was recommended by the Management Advisory Group after it completed a year-long study in 2025.
