Supervisors disagree over sea level rise language in regional plan

A heated disagreement regarding Mathews County’s participation in the Middle Peninsula All Hazards Mitigation Plan arose between two members of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors during the June 27 meeting.

The discussion followed another disagreement that occurred earlier in the meeting between the same members over the county’s Regional Water Supply Plan. That matter was reported in the Gazette-Journal’s June 29 issue.

Supervisor G.C. Morrow attempted to present and have the board vote on a letter he wanted to send to the Federal Emergency Management Agency regarding the term “Sea Level Rise Plus Six Feet.” This term was included in the 559-page official mitigation plan that was developed regionally with the help of emergency managers of the six counties and three towns on the Middle Peninsula.
