SunTrust closes bank branch; plans to locate another at Fox Mill Centre

SunTrust has closed its bank branch at Gloucester Point and plans to close its branch in Gloucester Court House in late October, corporate spokesman Hugh Suhr said last week.

Coupled with that announcement, Suhr said SunTrust plans to open a new branch at Gloucester’s Fox Mill Centre on Oct. 27.

The Gloucester Point branch located on Route 17 closed on July 11 and the branch on Main Street is scheduled to close Oct. 24, Suhr said.

“SunTrust, like all banking companies, must constantly refine its branch network to meet the changing needs and transaction patterns of clients as well as taking into account their increasing usage of newer delivery channels such as internet banking and mobile banking,” Suhr said.

Many factors are considered when looking to open or close a branch, Suhr said, including market growth, real estate arrangements and transaction volumes. The decision regarding the local closures was made “after careful study and analysis,” he added...
