‘Summer of Color’ exhibit opens Friday

An opening reception for “The Summer of Color,” an exhibit of watercolor paintings by regional artists who are members of the Virginia Watercolor Society, will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Bay School Community Arts Center, Mathews.

The show is being hosted simultaneously with Summer of Color exhibits at Arts on Main in Gloucester and the RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock.

A total of 24 regional artists entered pieces for the Summer of Color exhibits, said a press release, with 11 of the paintings located at the Bay School. Each participating artist submitted one or two paintings to the show or shows of their choice. Watercolor paintings in the Art Speaks show were all inspired by a land or sea theme, said the release.

Kay Van Dyke, founder of Arts on Main, will judge each show and confer a first-place award. All three exhibitions are sponsored by Chesapeake Bank.
