Suffolk man arrested in connection with Gloucester robberies

The Gloucester Sheriff’s Office arrested a 29-year-old Suffolk man on June 2 in connection with the recent armed robberies at three local convenience stores.

The first robbery occurred at 6:25 a.m. May 29 at the Speedway on the corner of Route 17 and Burleigh Road. GSO Chief Deputy Ryan Cookson said a clerk was working at the front register when she saw a man carrying a black long gun approach the front door.

Cookson said the man was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with an eagle emblem along with black pants, black shoes and a dark mask. The man demanded money from the clerk who turned over an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and the suspect fled the area.

Surveillance video showed a light-colored sedan with a missing front passenger side hubcap driving back and forth near the business prior to the robbery. The same vehicle is seen fleeing the area shortly after the suspect left the business.
