Sue Belvin Blake, 85, of Bena, walked into eternal glory on February 25, 2026. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed, but we rejoice that she is now in the presence of the Savior. “O death, where is your victory, O death, where is your sting?” Sue was born on January 15, 1941 to the late Howard and Hazel Belvin, and was raised in Severn, Virginia. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1959 and began working at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia. She married Graham C. Blake of Bena on September 18, 1961 at Union Baptist Church in Achilles, Virginia. After the birth of their daughters, Ann and Carla, Sue dedicated herself to staying home and raising their children. When her children were older, she obtained her real estate license and worked for decades in real estate and property management. Because of her work in property management, Sue was often the first-person new members of our community would meet, and they remembered her joy and kindness for years. Sue loved being involved in and giving back to her community. She was active in her children’s PTAs, the Abingdon Woman’s Club, and the York River Circle of The King’s Daughters and Sons. Her greatest community love was spending time in her church, Union Baptist, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, VBS Director, choir member, and devoted servant to her beloved church family and community. Sue was widely known for her cooking. Friends, family, hungry teenagers, and grieving community members were blessed countless times by the love Sue showed them through a good meal. After her God, her greatest joy was her family. She loved and adored her children and grandchildren, and we would never be able to repay the love, attention, and time she showered on us over the years. Even after they became adults, her grandchildren loved spending many hours with their “Nanny,” and she attended every event they attended. She was a joy. She was preceded in death by her cherished sisters and brother, Doris Rowe, Catherine Ashe, Hazel Rowe, Frances Warren, and Benny Belvin. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Graham C. Blake, who was faithful to the end; two daughters, Ann Hardee (Jimmy), Carla Hook (Keenon); four grandchildren, Ian Hardee (Tabytha), Brittney Hardee, Daniel Hook (Hailey), and Joshua Hook, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family received friends on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Union Baptist Church from 12-1:45 p.m., followed by a 2 o’clock service conducted by Pastor Jared Berry. Interment was held in Gloucester Point Cemetery. To honor her lifelong devotion to her faith, we kindly ask that memorial contributions be made to Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road, Hayes, Va. 23072. We would like to extend special thanks to her Riverside Hospice care team, especially Heather, Amber, and Michelle.
Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
