The Bay School Community Arts Center’s Outreach Committee is looking for outdoor artwork submissions for an Art in the Alley public art project.
This alley project is an artwork installation partially funded by a Keep Virginia Beautiful Green grant as part of the state’s Community Beautification projects and programs.
The purpose of the Bay School’s participation is to beautify areas of interest and create a new artistic pathway and destination for those in the community.
The alley is located across the street from the Bay School, between Storybound Construction and the Vintage Pearl and the Bean Spot in the old Farmers and Fishermen’s Building on Main Street. It crosses from Main Street to Court Street.
Artwork will need to be weather-resistant so that it’s suitable for being outside for a prolonged period of time. Both 2D and low-relief 3D works are being accepted, with an emphasis on larger scaled pieces for visual effect.
Artwork will be displayed outdoors for six months and available for purchase via commission in the Bay School’s Art Speaks Gallery. The artist’s name, artwork title, and a QR code to the website listing will be displayed with the artwork.
The following information should be included in each entry: size, title, material, and overall description of the piece.
Entries may be submitted in person to 279 Main Street, by mail to P.O. Box 1524, Mathews, Va. 23109, or via email at sgsoles@bayschool-arts.com.
An entry form may be downloaded from Bay School’s website, bayschoolarts.org/Call-for-artists.
