‘Stuff a Backpack Picnic’ held in memory of Betty Wormley

In memory of Gloucester resident Zenobia “Betty” Briggs Wormley, who passed away on Aug. 18, 2018, the Wormley family held a “Stuff a Backpack Memorial Picnic” on Aug. 17 at Morning Glory Baptist Church, Gloucester.

Her eldest daughter, Gloria Wormley Adderly, coordinated the event with assistance from sisters Donna Freeman and Linda Wormley.

The event opened with a headstone dedication ceremony, officiated by Rev. Darryl A. Hudson Sr., pastor of Morning Glory Baptist. Betty’s daughter, the Rev. Donna M. Freeman, led the group in prayer and said a few words.

Other family members and friends expressed their feelings about the loss of Betty Wormley and how she touched their lives and hearts. The ceremony closed with Mr. Hudson leading everyone in a dedication prayer.

All taking part were encouraged to donate school supplies to be used to fill book bags/backpacks for the coming school year. The donation of supplies continued to flow all through the picnic...
