Student spotlight: Calder – A leader at GHS and in the community

Donald Calder III is a leader among his peers at Gloucester High School and in the community at large.

Having just finished his junior year with a 3.7 grade point average, Calder was recently inducted into the school’s Beta Club, a high school honor society focused on community service.

Through this, as well as his membership in the National Honor Society, NJROTC and on his own initiative, Calder has accumulated more than 500 community service hours.

Because of these efforts among others, Calder was selected to take part in American Legion Boys State, a statewide camp in June for exceptional young men that models the Virginia state government.

Since his freshman year at GHS, Calder has been an avid participant in the school’s NJROTC program. Last year he served as the chief of the exhibition team, and today he holds the rank of Cadet Ensign. He helps strengthen the program by helping out with the drill team and tutoring other cadets whenever he can.
