Student spotlight: Busy academic, extracurricular schedule for GHS junior

Briana Pollard is a 16-year-old junior of Gloucester High School and the Alpha Company senior chief in the school’s NJROTC program. Briana is also a student of the Governor’s School program at Rappahannock Community College, which puts her on track for graduation with an associate’s degree in May 2020, before she earns her high school diploma.

Briana was first exposed to medical science while enrolled in Intro to Health Careers as a high school freshman. Today, that passion has driven her to become a junior EMS at the Gloucester firehouse where she helps out as a volunteer rescue worker.

She was excited to work as a junior EMS because she wanted to learn more about health sciences and help people however she is able without having the obligation or expense of a college course. Despite her passion and interest in health sciences, Briana said she hopes to become a naval architect and marine engineer after college.
