Structure fire

Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad crews responded to a structure fire around 10:30 p.m. on June 1 at a residence on Guinea Road. According to AVFRS Lieutenant Drew Luellen, two people were home at the time, and one person suffered some minor burns. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. AVFRS crews were able to contain the fire to its room of origin. Above, AVFRS member David Thurston is shown conducting overhaul operations after the blaze was knocked down. AVFRS responded with three engines and one rescue truck. Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc., responded with mutual aid but were cancelled while en route. ...
