Structure fire

Members of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc., responded to a structure fire last Wednesday afternoon at the 6500 block of Richneck Road, White Marsh. According to AVFRS spokesperson Robert Parlett, the fire was reported by Dominion Virginia Power workers who were working in the area, saw the smoke and investigated. The power workers were working to restore power that had been lost due to Tuesday night’s ice storm, and there was no power to the house at the time the fire broke out. When AVFRS arrived on scene, Parlett said there was fire venting from two windows with fire extending into the attic. No one was home at the time of the blaze; there were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. AVFRS responded with three engines, two rescue trucks, one tanker, one ambulance and 24 volunteers. Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc., responded with one engine and 10 volunteers.
