Structure fire

Members of Abingdon and Gloucester Volunteer Fire departments responded July 13 to this structure fire on Arbutus Lane in Hayes just before 2 p.m. According to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue spokesperson Robert Parlett, the mobile home was essentially destroyed by the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation. Parlett said the home was occupied at the time, but everyone made it out safely with no injuries reported. He said more than 20 volunteers responded to put out the flames. He added that the windshield of one of Abingdon’s fire trucks was broken out because of low-hanging limbs. Parlett encouraged homeowners to trim low-hanging limbs so that they are not lower than at least 12 feet so fire and rescue apparatus can approach the property safely in the event of an emergency. ...
