Striper fishing picks up as winter blows in

"With the winter storms underway in the northeast, we saw a continued arrival of fish this week," said Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters at Cobbs Creek. He reported that fishing on Thursday was slow, but fishing improved Friday.

Thrash reported the following striper citations: Michael Hanhart of Winter Harbor and Huddleston, with a 44.5-inch release caught at the Cell; Robert Kirks of Petersburg, with a 40-pound, 10-ounce fish caught at Buoy 42; Christopher L. Williams of Mathews, with a 42-pound, 4-ounce fish caught at Cape Charles, and David L. Nova of White Stone with a 41-pound, 4-ouncer caught at Cape Charles.
