Strawberry festival takes aim at church debt

120 YEARS AGOThursday, May 24, 1906from the Mathews Journal The Strawberry Festival of the Old Baptist Church, under the auspices of the Willing Workers, will be held at the factory, Cricket Hill, on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, May 29 and 30. Their last entertainment, which took place some two weeks ago, was a most enjoyable one, and the elaborate preparations they are making for this occasion promises to make it far more successful than any of its predecessors. The ladies of the congregation are making herculean efforts to blot out the debt of the church, and they are going to do it. Come out and help them.
