120 YEARS AGOThursday, May 31, 1906from the Mathews Journal From Cricket Hill correspondent: The Strawberry Festival at the factory is looked forward to with a great deal of interest and we hope the profits will justify the reapers. Too bad the inclement weather barred the girls of this place from their launching party Monday, which they had looked forward to, anticipating such a jolly time. The young ladies of Cricket Hill gave a most enjoyable ice cream fete Thursday evening at the home of the Powell sisters. The grounds were beautifully illuminated with lanterns, which left no hiding place for the would be tete-a-tetes. After some outdoor games the boys and girls repaired to the different booths and were served with delicious cream and berries.
