Storage shed fire

Members of local fire departments battled a large storage shed fire at York River Yacht Haven, Gloucester Point, last Thursday night just after 10:30. First arriving units found the 40x60-foot building fully involved, according to Robert Parlett, spokesperson for the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. “Fire was visible through the metal seams from one end to another,” Parlett said. “It appeared that the fire had been burning for quite some time before being reported.” He said the building was initially built as a horse stable, but had been converted to storage for the marina. Here, Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad provided mutual aid using its tower ladder truck. York County Fire and Life Safety also responded with mutual aid. In all, about 25 firefighters battled the blaze and remained on scene for over four hours digging through the debris and performing overhaul. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. ...
