Still blooming through the fall

The native plant garden at Beaverdam Park on Roaring Springs Road, planted by volunteers from the Middle Peninsula Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists back in April, is expected to stay in bloom all the way through fall.
Master Naturalist Mary Runnells is part of a group of Virginia Master Naturalists that got together to use a combination of what they had learned this year for an end-of-year project. “We decided to do a garden here, so we had to seek out a space, get permission to use that space and things like that,” she said.
One of the other Master Naturalists in the group had received grant money which was put toward some of the bigger purchases for the garden like trees, compost, and mulch. “Most of these plants were donated by other Master Naturalists,” she explained.
