Stephen Millard Callis, 62, of Mathews, Virginia, passed away on September 16, 2025 at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Millard Grant Callis, and brother, William Anthony Callis. Steve is survived by his son, Stephen Blaine Callis; mother, Carolyn Hudgins Pugh; stepsister, Suzanne Anderson (Robert), and stepbrother, Milton Pugh (Cherie); aunt, Lou Anne Callis; uncle, Ronald Callis, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Steve attended Mathews High School, class of 1982. Upon graduation he spent time on a tugboat, working alongside his stepfather. He later returned to dry land and went to work at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. He eventually became a federal government employee working at Fort Eustis and ultimately at Naval Weapons Station, where he retired in 2018.
Steve was an avid collector of guns, knives, and Civil War memorabilia, as well as an accomplished marksman. He was a member of the SCV Lane-Armistead Camp #1772, Mathews, Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, at to Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, followed by a funeral service at 12. Burial will be private.
