Stephen James Ball, 58, of Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away on Nov. 30, 2016 at his home after a short battle with cancer.

Steve was born on March 19, 1958 in Newport Beach, California, to Harland J. Ball and Bobbi Sneed.

Steve was a loving, caring and friendly person who never met a stranger. He loved life and lived each day to the fullest. Steve was a hard worker and took a lot of pride in whatever job he was doing. He worked in a lot of different fields such a mobile home service, well drilling, Culligan Man, motel/hotel work and maintenance. Steve was last employed by First Team Auto where he worked as a maintenance technician. Steve was a diehard NASCAR fan and 49ers fan.

Steve loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harland J. Ball, and a sister, Lynn Ball Pinder.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Julie A. Ball; his mother, Bobbi Sneed; a son, Christopher H. Ball (Joy), and a daughter, Kathy L. Cox (Bryan). Steve had five grandchildren, David W. Ball, Noah LeFevre, Lydia LeFevre, Skylar Cox and Owen Cox. Steve was also survived by two sisters, Missie Ball Perrigo (Ron) and Joyce Ball Turchetti, and many other family members and friends.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at 7 p.m. at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 4320 Twin Pines Road, Portsmouth, Virginia 23703. Interment will be private.
