Mathews High School freshman Cameron Stearns captured third place in the 3,200 meter run in the state indoor track meet on Feb. 25-26 at Roanoke College.

Stearns was the highest placing Blue Devil in the VHSL Class 1-2 Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing his run with a time of 10:17.14. The MHS boys’ 4x800 relay team of Stearns, Calvin Kramer, Dylan White and Brian Robinson placed eighth at the Roanoke College meet with a time of 9:17.64.

nington, the Region A champion in the shot put, came in 16th in the state tournament with a throw of 36’2”.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Victoria Palaimo finished seventh in the high jump with a leap of 4’6”. ...
