Stearns leads MHS to victory

The Mathews High School cross country team went to Beaverdam Park last Wednesday for a home meet, competing against teams from Rappahannock, Essex and West Point.

The MHS girls’ team came in second overall with 37 points, while the Devil boys won the meet with 20 points.

The team’s seventh graders had the opportunity to race at this meet, but they did not race a full 5K distance. Gavin Dustin ran a 13:48, followed by Seth James (14:25), Baylee Bell (14:32) and Lilli Deforge (15:52), boding well for the future of the cross country program.

Among the girls, Adelle Hudgins (JV) led the MHS pack running a 23:44, followed by Avery Betz (23:52), Abbie Hudgins (24:10), Emily Rosadino (JV) (24:51), Melody Smith (25:21), Zoe Goodwin (25:23), Caroline Bray (25:29), Zoe Camp (JV) (25:34), Isabella Daniels (JV) (26:02), Alexis Deagle (27:06), and Kamryn Blake (27:58).
