Steamboat Era Museum

Children taking part in the Steamboat Era Museum’s First Friday morning activity of the 2022 season learned about the historical period through activities at the Irvington museum. Volunteers Mary Ann McKay, Brad Perry, Margery Nea and Eppie Pole showed photographs of the fashions of the day and explored the many chores children had during the era. Participants played games popular during that time period (1813-1937) including jacks, pick-up sticks, Jacobs’s ladder and ball and cup. Above, Nea plays pick-up sticks with some of the participants. Children ages 4 to 12 years are welcome to attend this program. They must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $5 per child and one adult per child receives a free admission. The next session is Friday. Call 804-438-6888 to reserve a space or email shop@steamboateramuseum.org. Programs will continue on July 8, 15, 22, 29 and Aug. 5, 12 and 19, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
