State seminar

Gloucester High School sophomores Marlee Thorson and Carodie Walker, from left, attended the Virginia Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) State Leadership Seminar over the weekend at James Madison University. These students were nominated to attend by GHS staff and were required to complete their applications in November. Out of 30 applicants, Thorson and Walker were chosen to represent GHS. During the three-day seminar, students participated in interactive workshops, service-learning activities and leadership training designed to develop their ability to lead, collaborate and make a positive impact in their schools and communities. At the conclusion of the seminar, Walker was selected to receive a partial scholarship to represent VA HOBY at the World Leadership Congress Seminar in Washington, D.C., on July 25-Aug. 1 with one other student. They were chosen from a pool of 168 student conference attendees....
