State Fair recognizes THMS Nature Trail

The Thomas Hunter Middle School Nature Trail got a boost last week when an exhibit about the project received the Superintendent’s Award from the State Fair of Virginia.

Kathryn Burruss, horticulture superintendent for the State Fair of Virginia, approached THMS science teacher Jerry Ligon, asking that the school create a display exhibiting the things the school is doing with its nature trail. “Kathryn explained that she felt that the good things we are doing with our project would be a benefit and an example to other schools around the state,” Ligon said.

The exhibit was centered on a landscape drawing of the nature trail created by Ricky Wiatt of Mathews, who is with Carlton Abbott & Partners, P.C. “Without their help, the exhibit would not have been the exceptional display that it turned out to be,” Ligon said.
