State advisory board

Mathews County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Welch recently stepped down after serving six years on the state’s Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure (ABTEL). ABTEL advises the Virginia Board of Education and submits recommendations on policies applicable to the qualifications, examination, licensure and regulation of school personnel. Twenty-one members representing various interest groups are appointed by the Board of Education for three-year terms; not to exceed two terms.
