The Fairfield Foundation will host “Evening Dig & Stargazing: Space and Archaeology,” a free public program at the Rosewell Ruins, from 5-10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, in collaboration with the Virginia Air and Space Science Center in Hampton. Rosewell is located at 5113 Old Rosewell Lane, Gloucester. The event connects archaeology and astronomy during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, said a press release, encouraging visitors to observe and take part in ongoing archaeological excavations before settling in under the night sky. During the excavations, archaeologists will demonstrate drone work and explain how they use cardinal directions to ensure that excavations parallel colonial techniques.
