More than a century after its founding, and a year after it closed its doors, the spirit of St. Margaret’s School is alive again. The St. Margaret’s School Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2025, has announced the launch of an all-girls’ microschool for day students, opening for the 2026-2027 academic year. Applications are now open, with enrollment limited to 10 students in grades 9-12 for this inaugural class. St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock opened in 1921, beginning with just 18 students and classes held above a local drugstore. It operated for over a century before its closing in 2025. A group of alumnae and community friends formed the St. Margaret’s School Foundation to continue the school’s educational mission. That organization is headquartered at the Phillips House on Water Lane in Tappahannock.
