Kyle Spruill of Gloucester, caught the largest spadefish registered for a citation in the 2025 Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament. Spruill caught his 13-pound, 3-ounce fish, which was 29 inches long, on June 4 while fishing at Chesapeake Light Tower. The minimum weight for a citation is 8 pounds, and 33 spadefish qualified for citations during the year, according to the Dec. 31 wrap-up from the tournament. Local waters produced a state-leading speckled trout, when Ryan Conway of Lancaster hauled in a 10-pound, 10-ounce specimen on May 3. The fish was 31.5 inches long.
