Spot still being caught in Rappahannock

Local reports say fishing in local waters continues to provide a mixed bag of results.

Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters at Cobbs Creek, reported that spot are still being caught in the Rappahannock River near the bridge to White Stone, at Butlers Hole, at the Spike and off Gwynn’s Island.

Meanwhile, he said medium-sized speckled trout have shown up in the Piankatank River and the bite in the Mobjack Bay has been good with three citations registered this week.
Some schools of rock are being caught trolling along and north of Windmill Bar and on irregular inshore bottoms, he added.

Finally, Thrash reported bluefish up to 20 inches are roaming the Chesapeake Bay.

He reported that Keith Nuttall of Gloucester, caught a 5-pound, 4-ounce citation speckled trout Oct. 20 in the Ware River, and Ed Lawrence, also of Gloucester, had 24.5" and 24" speck releases last week in Mobjack Bay waters.
