Spectators to gather on river for fireworks

The 33rd annual Yorktown Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration will be held next Wednesday night, beginning at 9:15. The fireworks will be launched from a barge anchored in the York River and will be visible from the Gloucester Point and Yorktown beach areas.

Visitors to the Gloucester Point Beach Park will be able to enjoy entertainment and concessions before and during the fireworks, according to Gloucester’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism department.

The concession stand at the park will open at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Menu items will include hot dogs, soft serve ice cream, snow cones, sodas and chips.

Music will be provided throughout the day, including the Hampton Roads-based band, Planet Full of Blues, which will be on stage from 6-9 p.m.

A limited number of handicapped parking spaces are available at the beach, but overflow parking will be permitted for the public at designated lots on the Virginia Institute of Marine Science campus.
