Speckled trout seem to be leaving

Chuck Ashe with York River Feed and Fishing Supplies, Inc., Gloucester Point, reported that speckled trout seem to be migrating out of the area.

Ashe said Charles Watts of Hayes landed a 25-inch speckled trout release Oct. 26 in the Ware River and that Joseph Fox of Hayes caught a 5-pound, 4-ounce speck Nov. 12 while fishing in the Mobjack Bay.

"Striper action for fish up to 26 inches has been hot for casters and for trollers in the vicinity of Windmill Point," said Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters, Cobbs Creek.

Fish over 30 inches were caught Friday and Saturday off Gwynn’s Island, he added. "With water temps in the mid to upper 50s, fishing should continue to improve," Thrash said..
