Antioch Baptist

Antioch Baptist Church, Susan, will have Homecoming celebrations this weekend. A Gospel concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday with singers from Gloucester, Mathews and Tappahannock. There will be a picnic at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The speaker at the 11 a.m. Sunday service will be the Rev. Dr. William Smith Jr. of Wheat Street Baptist Church, Atlanta, Ga. His ensemble will provide special music.

A special church meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22.

Apostles Lutheran

Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, will hold the 10th Sunday after Pentecost worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. A special offering for world hunger will be received during the service. Bellamy United Methodist

Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will gather for worship at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The Faith Builders Bible Study and adult Sunday school class meets at 9:30. Children’s Church will be at 10:30. The Youth Group meets at 5 p.m., with dinner provided.

Loaves and Britches Food and Diaper Ministry will be held from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Bethany United Methodist

The sermon title of Pastor John Choi of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, at the 8:30 a.m. informal Sunday service and traditional service at 11 o’clock will be “Where to Look for Faith.” Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45. Nursery is available for infants to three-year-olds.

Bethel Baptist

The Rev. James Harris and friends of Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester, will visit the residents of Walter Reed Convalescent Center, Gloucester, at 11 a.m. Friday. They will sing and he will share a special message with the residents.

Bethel Church of Mathews

The Women in Missions of Bethel Church of Mathews, Onemo, met at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the party garage at Janice Hudgins, with everyone sharing a favorite dish.

Kenneth Whitehead will speak at the 11 a.m. Sunday service and George Opie will provide the special music.

There will be a Blessing of the Backpacks during the Aug. 24 service.

Beulah Church of New Point

Pastor Dede Parrish of Beulah Church of New Point will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

Central United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Rebecca Rumburg Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, at 9:15 a.m. Sunday will be “Ready to Run?” Sunday school follows worship at 10:15.

Church of the Living Word

The sermon title of Assistant Pastor Melvin Epps of Church of the Living Word, Hayes, at 10 a.m. Sunday will be “God Got your Back.”

“Courageous Faith” will be Wednesday Bible Study topic at 6:30 p.m.

Emmaus Baptist

Emmaus Baptist Church, North, will hold revival services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 21. The Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr., pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Petersburg, will be the speaker.

A Homecoming celebration service will begin at 3 p.m. Aug. 24.

First Baptist, Ordinary

The sermon title of the Rev. Ward Warren of First Baptist Church, Ordinary, at the 10 a.m. Sunday service will be “Standing for a Cause.” Church school will be at 9.

Wednesday Bible study will be at 1 p.m.

First Morning Star Baptist

“Truth and Consequences” will be the sermon topic of Pastor Larry J. Arrington of First Morning Star Baptist Church, Bena, at 11 a.m. Sunday communion service. The service will be broadcast by teleconference 804-256-2475 and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page.

Gleaning Baptist

Gleaning Baptist Church, Gloucester, will hold a “Women’s Day Event” with worship/fashion show/dinner at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester. Gloucester Point Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Dillon Evans of Gloucester Point Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Care for the Bride.”

Gloucester Seventh-day Adventist

Gloucester Seventh-day Adventist Church will offer a free corn roast and watermelon at the church, on Route 17 Bypass, from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. Everyone is welcome, a release said.

Grace Covenant Presbyterian

Pastor Jesse Hill of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, will continue his sermon series on “Prayer” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Gwynn’s Island Baptist

Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church will hold its outdoor drive-in worship on the grounds of the Gwynn’s Island Civic League property, across from the church, at 10 a.m. Sunday; parking begins at 9 o’clock. The sermon title of Pastor Ed Jordan will be “God is Still Working … Join Him!” Special music will be by Gary Hudgins.

Kingston Episcopal

Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will observe the tenth Sunday in Pentecost with Holy Eucharist Rite I at 9:30 a.m. at Christ Church on Williams Wharf Road.

Monday (1 p.m.) and Tuesday (7 p.m.), “The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life,” classes continue in the parish house. Wednesday noon Holy Eucharist/Healing will take in St. John’s Chapel in the parish house. The Vestry will meet at 5:30 p.m.in the library.

Morning Glory Baptist

Morning Glory Baptist Church, Gloucester, will celebrate Homecoming on Saturday and Sunday.

The Rev. Dr. Katrina Brown of Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester, will be the guest minister at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship and Holy Communion service. There will be no Sunday School or Disciples Class. Lunch will be served from 1:30-2:30 p.m. At 2:45, prayer and praise will be held in the sanctuary.

The annual Homecoming service will be held at 3 o’clock with guest speaker, the Rev. Jonathan T. Mercer, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, Tappahannock. He will be accompanied by his church family.

On Saturday the Weekly Prayer Call, dialing 605-313-4440 and entering access code 6913598, will be held at 8:45 a.m. Choir rehearsal will be at noon with Bessie Cauthorne. “Pack a Backpack” will be held from noon-4 p.m. It will include dropping off school supplies and picking up filled backpacks at the church grounds, along with food, fun, and fellowship.

Mount Zion United Methodist

The sermon title of the Rev. Calvin Griffin of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Gloucester, at 9 a.m. Sunday will be “God’s Response.”

New Hope Fellowship

New Hope Fellowship, Hartfield, Compassion International, and the 95Network will hold a Healthy Church Conference from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept.18. Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, will hear from one of their missionaries to South America at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Various Sunday school classes meet at 9 o’clock. A nursery, for infants and toddlers, will be available.

Olive Branch Global Methodist

An “All Are Welcome Men’s Breakfast” will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday in Olive Branch Global Methodist Church, Gloucester. The Rev. Randall Cupp will preach at the 9:30 service. Bible study will follow at 10:30.

Fellowship Sunday will be Aug. 24 after worship.

Saint Paul Comfort

Pastor Dede Parrish of Saint Paul Comfort Church, Susan, will preach at the 9:45 a.m. Sunday worship service.

Salem Community

Salem Community Church, Gloucester, will hold Sunday worship at 11 a.m. Adult Bible study will precede the service at 10.

The USDA Food Pantry will be open from 9-11 a.m. Saturday.

Movie Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 and ice cream will be served after the service on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Severn

The sermon title of Pastor Ray “Bud” Goude of Severn Church, Naxera, at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “Invitation to Contentment.” The service will also be available on YouTube and Facebook. Adult and Youth Sunday school classes begin at 10.

Weekly Bible Study classes are open to all and will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, led by Neal and Shirley Hogge and at 10 a.m. Wednesday, led by Mr. Goude; both in the fellowship hall.

Shepherdsville Baptist

The Joy Ministry of Union Baptist Church, Hayes, will serve at the American Red Cross blood drive from noon-5 p.m. on Friday.

A men’s breakfast meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Worship leader will be Dr. Brenda Foster Allen of White Rock Baptist Church, Durham, North Carolina. Fellowship and soul food dinner will be served from 1:30-2:45.

The Rev. Andre McCloud, associate pastor of Rising Valley Baptist Church, James Store, will preach at the 11 a.m. service. The Gospel Chorus, directed by Carol Jones, will sing.

UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST FELLOWSHIP OF THE RAPPAHANNOCK

The Rev. Andrew Millard will speak on “Religion in the Future” by at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, White Stone.

Zion Hill Baptist

Pastor Eugene Comithier II of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Gloucester, will preach at the 11 a.m. Sunday in-person worship service. The Inspirational Voices will sing. In-person Sunday school will be held at 9:45.

Annual Homecoming will be observed at 3 p.m. Dr. Rodney D. Waller, senior pastor of First African Baptist Church, Richmond, will be the guest speaker. He will be accompanied by his congregation. Lunch will be served from 1:30-2:30.
