Special meeting tonight to consider extending tax bill deadline

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors has called a special meeting for tonight at 5 o’clock in the colonial courthouse. The purpose of the meeting, according to county spokesperson Christi Lewis is for the sole purpose of deciding whether to grant an extension of time for taxpayers to pay certain supplemental real estate tax bills.

Under matters presented by the board at the supervisors’ meeting last Tuesday, several members brought up the tax bills that a number of residents had recently received on work that had been done on properties as far back as 2007. The bills have a due date of March 1.

Supervisors asked county attorney Ted Wilmot to see what could be done and if the deadline could be pushed back for payment of these late bills.
