Special ed teacher, increased compensation added to budget draft

Following a public hearing on its proposed 2018-2019 budget, the Mathews County School Board made two adjustments to its proposal of roughly $14.4 million—exchanging a librarian position at Thomas Hunter Middle School with that of a special education teacher, and increasing the planned raise for all employees by an additional percentage point.

Neither of those changes was addressed by the public during the hearing that preceded the work session on Tuesday evening in the Mathews High School media center.

The next step in the budget process will be a joint dinner meeting with county supervisors starting at 5 o’clock this coming Tuesday in the Thomas Hunter Middle School library, at which time the school board will present its budget proposal.
