Special ed committee to hold session on Medicaid expansion

The Mathews County Special Education Advisory Committee will hold an information session on Medicaid expansion at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Thomas Hunter Middle School library. Light refreshments will be provided.

New guidelines that went into effect in January 2019 have greatly impacted the availability for Virginians to receive low- and no-cost health care coverage, even adults who were not eligible in prior years, a release stated.

The session will have presenters from the Department of Social Services, Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic, and the cafeteria manager from Mathews County Public Schools to provide information and answer questions.

Topics discussed will include Medicaid expansion, Medicaid coverage for former foster children, Virginia’s Plan First initiative, and how to qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.
