South pitches complete-game no-hitter for MHS

The Mathews High School varsity softball team improved to 10-2 on the season with an 11-1 victory over Middlesex last Thursday.

Madison South struck out 11 batters and surrendered only two walks as she threw a complete-game no-hitter for the Devils. The sole Middlesex run came in the fourth inning on a pair of Mathews fielding errors.

Although the Lady Devils gathered 13 hits and batted .520 as a team, they only led, 5-1, after three and a half innings. Seven of those hits, however, came in the fourth inning when Mathews crossed the plate six times to give them the 10-run advantage necessary to end the game in five innings. Savanna Wooten led the team offensively, going 3-for-3 with three singles and a RBI. South was 2-for-2 with a single, double, walk and two RBIs. Andie Schlosshan was also 2-for-2 with two singles, a walk and one RBI. Josey Bauby was 1-for-1 with a single, two walks and one RBI. Lexie Miles went 2-for-3 with a single, her fourth home run of the season and two RBIs....
