Sorority scholarships awarded to four Northern Neck students

The Virginia Northern Neck Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., during a Zoom meeting held on May 16, awarded scholarships totaling $4,500 to four local students.

The scholarships were awarded based on the students’ academic success, involvement in community and school activities. This year’s recipients were Avante Banks and India Bundy of Essex High School, Amme Saunders of Northumberland High School, and Briauna Smith of Rappahannock High School.

Banks, the son of George and Amanda Banks, is a member of the Student Superintendent Council, the football team and he also volunteered to help victims impacted by a tornado that struck the area. He plans to attend Virginia Wesleyan University in the fall and will be majoring in Business Administration.
