Some of main Light Up Urbanna events canceled due to pandemic concerns

Some of Urbanna’s main Christmas-themed offerings have been canceled due to COVID-19, but not everything.

The three main Light Up Urbanna events set for this Saturday—the golf cart and pet parades and a Christmas tree lighting and caroling ceremony—have been canceled.

The announcement came Friday from Urbanna Beautification Inc. Director Karen Lowe. “It was not the activities per se that raised concerns, it was the unknown numbers who might attend,” a news release read. “It was a very difficult decision at all levels, as we are all here to promote tourism to our town, shops and restaurants.”

Out of concern for the rising virus numbers in Middlesex, Lowe contacted the Middlesex County Economic and Tourism Department, who then contacted counterparts at the state level and was advised that these activities should be canceled.
