Solar power system dedicated

Dominion Virginia Power and Canon Virginia, Inc., celebrated Earth Day on Tuesday dedicating the completion of Virginia’s largest rooftop solar system, installed at the Canon facility at White Marsh.

The project, which includes more than 2,000 solar panels, sends power to the regional electricity grid—enough for about 125 homes, said Ken Barker, Dominion’s vice president of customer solutions and energy conservation.

Barker said the local project, mounted above the roof of the Canon Environmental Technologies toner cartridge recycling plant in the Gloucester Business Park, was built as part of Dominion’s $83 million plan to install solar systems for 30-40 businesses throughout the state within the next several years. The Gloucester project cost $1.8 million.
