Social media comments put Gloucester schools on alert

An increased presence of Gloucester Sheriff’s Office deputies greeted students at Gloucester High School and Peasley Middle School Tuesday morning due to comments on social media. 
“The increases were in response to comments on social media that were deemed threatening to the welfare of students and staffs,” school division assistant superintendent John Hutchinson said in an e-mail on Tuesday. 
Hutchinson said both schools worked in close collaboration with the sheriff’s office to insure the safety of students and staff. He said the students responsible for making the comment had been identified and the school division and law enforcement were addressing the situation in accordance with school board policy.
