Smoke-free youth initiative underway in region

The Virginia Department of Health’s Three Rivers Health District is in the third year of a grant from the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth for a smoke-free initiative campaign.

In the first two years, Three Rivers Health District implemented the Too Good for Drugs Mendez Foundation Evidence-based Program to kindergartners, and second and fourth grade students in Mathews, Lancaster, Essex and Richmond counties, and the Towns of Colonial Beach and West Point.

First graders at the Boys and Girls Club will be participating in the Too Good For Drugs Program this spring. This year’s schedule for Mathews, Colonial Beach, West Point and Lancaster elementary schools is not yet finalized due to COVID-19.
