Small fire reported at GHS

A small fire last week at Gloucester High School resulted in no damages to the building, although some materials inside a shipping container used on site for the ongoing construction project there were damaged, according to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief J.D. Clements.

GVFR was dispatched at 1:06 p.m. last Thursday, Dec. 14, with the fire inside the container storing electrical supplies. There were no injuries and everyone was allowed back into the building after the fire.

“It is not confirmed, but we think that the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette,” Clements said.

One medic, one fast-attack pumper and one full-sized pumper responded, arriving on scene about four minutes after the call was received. Captain Joe Lenberman was in command. The fire was put out and the scene was cleared at 1:46 p.m.
