Slater Hurst Jr. died July 14, 2014 at his home in North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his father, Slater Hurst Sr. of New Point.

Survivors include his mother, Carrie H. Poe of Mathews; his sisters, Cynthia Bradley of Newport News and Connie H. Shelton of Mathews, and brother, Wayne Hurst of Newport News.

A private funeral service was held.
