Slammin Sammy’s Diner opens at Point

Slammin Sammy’s Diner is Gloucester Point’s newest restaurant. Located along Route 17 in a building that formerly housed Pizza Hut, Slammin Sammy’s offers an assortment of home-cooked style meals served in large portions to its guests for breakfast and lunch.

Owner Sammy Zaharopoulos is no stranger to running a restaurant in Gloucester, as he was the owner of the Wild Horse Café at White Marsh before it closed earlier this year. Manager Lisa Hillman said Zaharopoulos’ cooking is loved by the community which has caused folks to wait eagerly for Slammin Sammy’s to open. Before opening day, she said someone came by daily asking when it would open.

The wait finally ended last week when the restaurant held a soft opening on Wednesday. Hillman said customers trickled in at first but business began to take off around lunch.

Hillman said customers can order breakfast and lunch throughout the day, everything from omelets, pancakes, burgers, quesadillas, steaks and a number of desserts...
