The pre-construction site work is almost complete at the location off T.C. Walker Road where a new county middle school is planned. The new Page Middle School will replace the former Page school on Route 17 that was heavily damaged by a tornado in 2011 and was subsequently demolished.
Since early spring, employees of Henderson Inc. of Williamsburg have been working to clear and grade approximately 53 acres where the school will be built. The work was scheduled to be completed by today but about 25 days have been lost to wet weather since the project began, according to Scott Shorland, construction manager for Gloucester Public Schools.
Despite the days lost, Shorland said the Henderson employees have worked long days and weekends in an effort to keep their work on schedule, and the site preparation should be completed by the end of this month.
